Natural Flavone with Anti-Aging and Anti-Inflammatory Benefits
Apigenin (4′,5,7-trihydroxyflavone) is a naturally occurring flavone compound found in plants like parsley, chamomile, and celery. Research has linked Apigenin to a range of biological benefits — from anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity to potential anti-cancer and anti-aging support.
One of its most notable mechanisms is the inhibition of CD38, an enzyme that depletes NAD+, a vital molecule for energy metabolism and cellular repair. By preserving NAD+ levels, Apigenin may contribute to longevity and cellular resilience.

What is Apigenin?
Apigenin (4′,5,7-trihydroxyflavone) is a natural compound belonging to the flavone class of plant metabolites. It is the aglycone form of several naturally occurring glycosides and appears as a yellow crystalline solid. Historically, Apigenin has even been used as a natural dye for wool. It was first isolated from chamomile flowers in 1914.
Apigenin occurs in small amounts across a variety of fruits and vegetables, but it is most abundant in parsley, celery, celeriac, and chamomile. Chamomile flowers are especially rich in Apigenin, which can make up approximately 68% of their total flavonoid content. Dried parsley contains roughly 45 mg of Apigenin per gram, while dried chamomile flowers typically contain between 3 to 5 mg per gram.
Among fresh produce, parsley stands out with an Apigenin concentration of about 215.5 mg per 100 grams, significantly higher than green celery hearts, which provide approximately 19.1 mg per 100 grams.
How Does Apigenin Work?
Apigenin, a natural flavonoid, exhibits multiple beneficial effects through various biological mechanisms.
Research indicates that Apigenin has strong anti-inflammatory properties, primarily by inhibiting the COX-2 enzyme, which plays a key role in inflammation. It also demonstrates potent anti-tumor and anti-cancer activities, showing the ability to suppress growth in various cancers such as leukemia, prostate, breast, stomach, bladder, ovary, lung, and thyroid cancer. Beyond cancer, Apigenin supports overall cellular health.
Its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects contribute to improved cognitive function. Studies in animal models of Alzheimer’s disease have shown that Apigenin can enhance memory and reduce learning impairments.
Apigenin also interacts with the brain’s GABA receptors, promoting relaxation and acting as a natural anti-depressant. Additional research highlights its ability to lower blood pressure and exhibit anti-diabetic effects.
Furthermore, Apigenin has notable anti-aging properties. It inhibits the enzyme CD38, leading to increased NAD+ levels—a critical molecule involved in energy metabolism and cellular repair. This process may help reduce age-related declines, including decreases in testosterone levels.
Dosage & Storage
Recommended maximum daily dose: Up to 1.5 g
Shelf life: 2 years.
The bioavailablilty of Apigenin is low to medium. Consumption with oil and carbonhydrate-rich food may improve the absorption.
Consumption of Apigenin with Quercetin improves the absorption of both substances.
Apigenin is generally safe to use and should not cause any adverse effects with recommended dosage.
Free measuring spoon included. The spoon holds 0.35g Apigenin and is dishwasher safe. For other products, please note that density may differ and the spoon may hold a different mass.
Store between 15°C and 25°C in a cool, dry place. Apigenin is temperature stable, but we recommend keeping it refrigerated when possible.
